The Story of a Trailblazing Anti-Racist Skinhead
And the Legendary Crew that Defied all Stereotypes
1990’s
Mike Crenshaw
…. A young BLACK SKINHEAD establishing his place within Minneapolis’s 1990 Punk Rock scene.
Born on the south side of Chicago, Mike’s family moves around constantly– from the hood to the suburbs to the sticks, making it hard to fit in.
Wherever he goes, he can’t find acceptance. Black kids make fun of him for acting white. White Kids ostracize him for being black.

The Crew
Gator
Mixed Native American/ Black Skinhead, and Co-founder of The Baldies.
Gator is a graffiti artist and skater, who became straightedge after the downfall of his drug dealing father.
Greenie
Punk rock beauty, vegan, and radical feminist, who demands women fight Nazis alongside the men.
Greenie is Mike’s first love, but their relationship falls apart due to her excessive drug use and alcohol addiction.
Jon
Co-founder of The Baldies who is heavily involved in the music scene.
Jon is kind and compassionate from a middle-class family. More conservative than the other members.
Rachel
Intelligent, mixed-race platonic friend of Mike’s who becomes his voice of reason.
Her father Rudy was an original Rude Boy, who inspired many anti-racist skinhead and anti-fascist ideals.
Dave
Mike’s best friend and Baldies cohort. They’d often compete over the same punk rock chicks.
A bad ass fighter who commands everyone’s respect.
Xavier
Caring, thoughtful, and easily influenced. Willing to do anything for his friends.
Because his heart is in the right place, others often take advantage of his kindness.
Southside Mo
One of the few black members of the crew, Mo, encourages Mike to stay in touch with his black identity.
He listens to political roots and reggae and later convinces Mike to take MCing seriously.
Kieran
After joining the Baldies, Kieran quickly becomes the Idealogical brain of the crew.
He was raised in a family of union organizers and community activists to become a radical revolutionary anti-fascist.
The Enemy
Paul Harris
Minneapolis punk rocker turned Neo-Nazi, Paul founds the White Knights— rivals of the Baldies.
Mike gets arrested after throwing a brick through Paul’s window. When Mike organizes a fundraiser to cover his fine, all of the MPLS street gangs come together to oppose the White Knights.
Brent
Reluctant member of the White Knights. Brent is a participant in the local punk rock scene, who comes to his senses and eventually turns on his racist counterparts.
Bautista
Ruthless Cuban-born cop who identifies as white, and terrorizes the Baldies.
Bautista is a secret ally of the White Knights and other white supremacy organizations.
The Fam
The Fam
Iris
Mike’s mother and his rock. Iris struggles financially and personally, but always takes care of her family.
After divorcing Mike’s stepfather, Don, Iris moves to Portland for a new beginning. Soon after, Mike follows her to the Northwest.
Mark
Mike’s collegiate older brother who constantly makes fun of Mike and his friends.
After moving to Portland, Mark begins socializing and partying with the same “rejects” he used to make fun of—The Sharps (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice).
Don
The pro-black Afrocentric stepfather of Mike, who works as an attorney in the DA’s office.
Don looks out for Mike and warns him when the police classify The Baldies as a street gang, but Mike never seems to appreciate his sacrifice.
April
Just as Mike hits rock bottom, he has a one-night stand with an 18-year-old April, who becomes pregnant and decides to keep the baby.
April gives birth to Mike’s first daughter, Shomarri, and forces him to look at the world differently from a young age.

What is a skinhead?
What is a skinhead?
We can all imagine a SKINHEAD.
The tight SHAVE. Bomber jacket. Swastika patches. Pegged jeans. Racist tattoos. Suspenders. Fred Perry shirts. Doc Martin boots.
But skinheads weren’t always the symbol of White Supremacy…
The Nazis jacked their style.
The original fashion, music, and movement date back to the Jamaican Rude Boys.
And more recently, to the 1960’s UK working-class teens.
Why?
Why does it matter?
The legacy created by the Jamaican Rude Boys and established by theBritish working class, would be continued by The Minneapolis Baldies.
Many of Antifa’s current methodologies can be traced back to The Baldies.
Full Circle Moment
In the wake of the tragic 2019 murder of George Floyd, attention immediately shifted to protesters on the streets of Minneapolis. President Trump and his supporters denounced the Black Lives Matter movement, and labeled Antifa (short for Anti-Fascist) a terrorist organization. Although Antifa is not a unified group, the organization actively challenges white supremacy, similar to the Baldies and the antiracist skinheads that existed prior to them.
